1. Hunt Breakfast at the three Pigeons Five huntsmen, including the parson are gathered in the flag-stoned floor and wood beamed dining room. The walls of the Three Pigeons Inn are adorned with a stuffed mounted trophy fish, hunting inspired images and an ancient blunder buss. The huntsmen are enjoying their pre hunt breakfast. They are interrupted by the arrival of members of the rest of the hunt which may be seen through the door that the elderly innkeeper has just opened. The fox hounds are excited, but the master of hounds restrains them from entry. Other mounted members may be seen through the window including a young participant peeping in. Four of the huntsmen are dressed in full hunting attire complete with riding crop & spurs they are starting to rise from a trestle table strewn with piled crockery, some dishes have fallen to the floor. The gentlemen are enjoying a large ham and cloth covered wheel of cheese washed down by pints of ale. As the master of the hunt rises, in his haste he knocks over a Windsor armed dining chair. As in many of Aldin's fox hunting scenes there are moments of humour which add to the charm, appeal and collectability of this image.
2. Breaking cover A side saddle huntress leads the hunt from the woods and onto a gated field, the pack of fox hounds are already racing across it in pursuit of the fox. A young boy has climbed to a branch of a tree and points the direction. To the left a young lad attempts to persuade his mount - a stubborn donkey, to follow the somewhat disorganized hunt through the gate. In the right foreground a warmly dressed mother and daughter wave the hunt on. The former holds a jacketed greyhound on a leash. At the gate another tethered terrier excitedly strains to join the fray. Two young boys have climbed the rungs of the gate, one of whom is tumbling from it into the boundary hedge. Despite some age and water staining this charming and collectable image retains its humorous appeal and is well worth the reduced price.
