THE TEMPLE OF LUXOR SEEN FROM THE SOUTH WEST
[RUINS OF LUXOR FROM THE SOUTH-WEST]

The temple was the focus of the annual Opet Festival, in which a cult statue of Amun was paraded down the Nile from nearby Karnak Temple to be venerated. The heat reflected from the still waters of the Nile and the lethargic pose of the Fellah man is masterfully captured in Roberts' composition.
