Roberts magnificently captured the soft light filtering from the cupola window illuminating the time worn flagstones and Haghe's technique of scraping through the tint stones to highlight the massive capitals is unsurpassed, for it is the softly lit scene and the positioning of the individuals in their acts of devotion that has inspired many a Christian to visit for themselves the sites of Christendom that Roberts portrayed so superbly.
