MOSQUE OF OMAR SHEWING THE SITE OF THE TEMPLE

[THE MOSQUE OF OMAR]

One of the most sacred places of Islam, and one of the masterpieces of Islamic architecture. Its splendid gilt dome surmounts an octagon and covers the rock upon which, according to the Bible, Abraham was about to sacrifice his son Isaac, also a footprint carved in the rock marks the spot where the Prophet Mohammed ascended to heaven. Considered by many to be the finest and most evocative of all Roberts' Holy Land images.
