Depicts a serenely calm morning at full tide in Penzance bay with a coastal lugger and other lug-sailed fishing boats that are seen between the shore and the rock, adjacent to the flooded causeway to Marazion. The latter being marked by posts. Hannaford in characteristic style has caught the serenity of the moment, capturing the ethereal light and the romantic pile of masonry that crowns the rock of St. Michael half a mile offshore. There is some evidence of slight fading to the sky. The painting is set into its original period frame.
