Edgar Bundy ARA. (1862-1922) was a well-known British historical and genre painter. He was commissioned by the Canadian War Memorials Fund to paint two large canvases, one of which depicted the first landing of Canadian forces in France 1915. The title of the painting refers to the arrival of the first Canadian troops - the 3rd Canadian Infantry Brigade, disembarking at the French port Saint-Nazaire in February 1915.
The image accurately depicts a number of Canadian and British soldiers who were present at the landing in France. The original painting hangs in the Senate Chamber in the Parliament Buildings, Ottawa, Canada. Published and Produced for the I.O.D.E. by the Fine Arts Publishing Company Limited, London, Copyright in London and Washington; Bundy 1918. This scarce image is in virtually mint condition and handsomly presented with double museum matting, glazed, silver-gilt frame.
