Within a treed and hill back-dropped landscape is depicted a small family run rustic mill with its water wheel. This is a significant work by Vincent who is considered to be one of the most talented of the Norwich School of painters.

Sunset tolls the knell of another parting day. At an old lock on the Kennett river canal, a man makes a small canal barge secure before departing for the night. A village church sits among the well wooded river side, as crows return to the roost.
