This fine painting was professionally cleaned in 2016.
Harold McAvoy lived in Toronto, there he studied architecture at UOT (1923) and taught at the Danforth
Technical School 1923-55. Working in oils, his subject matter includes coastal and rural landscapes of
southern Ontario, Muskoka and Gloucester Mass. A contemporary of ‘the Group of Seven’ the
influence of J.E.H. MacDonald’ may be seen in this painting. He exhibited at the RCA (1940) and examples
of his work may be found in the Nat. Gall. Can. Ottawa.

Painted Ca, 1912, A fine full-face portrait of a 'lived in face' of an elderly gentleman, with a healthy complexion, expressive blue eyes, balding head with silver grey hair, and a long full bifurcated beard. The pink tones of his skin are well offset by the grey toned background.
This fine example of the work of Donges was professionally cleaned in 2001. Depicted are a cluster of farm buildings including a hay barn, set under a towering clouded sky.
