A one-horse cart plies a rough track, (the only through road) around a rock outcrop at the tree-clad entrance to Borrowdale, near Derwentwater, in the Lake District of Cumberland, England. High to the right is seen towering Jack’s Crag (1860), later known as Great Crag. Borrowdale Beck runs to the right of the track. The location is as beautiful (and almost as tranquil amid the bird song) as it was in 1882 when Dudley painted this scene. |
